One-off production for structural art

Problem:
Without special dampers, a double-helix staircase vibrates too strongly due to its natural resonance and therefore cannot be used by people.

Solution:
Special custom shock absorbers are retrofitted inside the support tube and integrated “invisibly” into the artwork as damping devices. The shock absorbers were designed and manufactured as a custom one-off production for this project by LEBEN-Dämpfungstechnik GmbH.

Advantage:
After installation of the special shock absorber, people can step onto the double-helix staircase without the occurrence of impermissible vibration amplitudes. Furthermore, the appearance of the artwork remains unchanged due to the internal damping.
